Subclass 570 English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS))

About this Visa
This visa is for international students who want to study English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) in Australia . This includes:

  • courses that lead to a certificate I, II, III or IV
  • courses that result in no formal Australian award.

If you are studying ELICOS as a pre-requisite to another course, you must apply for the visa appropriate to your main course of study. If you are studying several courses, the main course is the higher level course.


To apply for this visa type, applicants must:

be accepted for full-time study in a registered course or part of a registered course to be eligible for this visa.

*

have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia . You must also have enough money to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they do not travel with you to Australia .

*

meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:

  • your length of stay in Australia
  • other health risks in your home country or countries you have visited for more than three months within the last five years.

*

have health insurance while in Australia . Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.

 

*

provide school reports and academic records as evidence of your previous schooling, training or other study.

You can do a maximum of 50 weeks of ELICOS on this visa. If you are applying to renew your student visa and you have previously studied ELICOS, your total period of ELICOS study while in Australia must not exceed 60 weeks.

*

be of good character to enter Australia .

 

 
What does this visa let me do?

With this visa:

  • you can study in Australia
  • your dependant family members may accompany you to Australia if: 
    • you are a fully funded applicant
      or
    • you will be or have been studying an ELICOS course or courses of 12 months or more duration.
  • when you have commenced your course of study in Australia , you can work up to 20 hours per week while your course is in session and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.
  • your family members can work up to 20 hours per week provided you have commenced your course of study in Australia .
    Note: If you have been granted Student visa before 26 April 2008 you and your dependent family members may need to apply separately for Permission to Work.
  • your spouse (if eligible to accompany you to Australia ) can study in Australia for up to three months.
    Note: If your spouse wants to study for more than three months they must apply for their own student visa. The application can be made in Australia .
Subclass 571 PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL COURSE

About this Visa
This visa is designed for international students applying to study in Australia and whose main course of study is:

  • a primary school course
  • a secondary school course, including junior and senior secondary
    or
  • an approved secondary school exchange program.


To apply for this visa type, applicants must:

be accepted for full-time study in a registered course or part of a registered course to be eligible for this visa.

*

have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia . You must also have enough money to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they do not travel with you to Australia .

*

meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:

  • your length of stay in Australia
  • other health risks in your home country or countries you have visited for more than three months within the last five years.

*

have health insurance while in Australia . Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.

meet English language skills:

If you are over 16 years of age and are applying:

  • for direct entry into a course, you must have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0
  • to do a preliminary English course before your main course, you must have an IELTS score of at least 4.0. You can study a preliminary English course for up to 30 weeks .

If you are under 16 years of age, your education provider will advise you of the level of English language you need. You can study up to 30 weeks of a preliminary English course.

Subclass 572 VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
About this Visa
This visa is designed for international students applying to study in Australia and whose main course of study is:

  • a certificate IV (except ELICOS)
  • a diploma
  • an advanced diploma
  • a vocational graduate certificate
    or
  • a vocational graduate diploma.

Note: A certificate I, II, or III course can only be studied as part of a package when it is a prerequisite to your main course of study.

To apply for this visa type, applicants must:

be accepted for full-time study in a registered course or part of a registered course to be eligible for this visa.

*

have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia . You must also have enough money to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they do not travel with you to Australia .

meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:

  • your length of stay in Australia
  • other health risks in your home country or countries you have visited for more than three months within the last five years.

  • you have successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent, by providing school reports and academic records
  • for your main course, you have a Letter of Offer for, or are enrolled in, a Certificate IV course of at least one year's duration, or a diploma or an advanced diploma.

If you are applying to renew your student visa , you must provide academic reports and previous records of attendance to show that you satisfied the course requirements.

About this Visa
This visa is designed for international students applying to study in Australia and whose main course of study is one of the following:

  • Bachelor degree
  • associate degree
  • graduate certificate
  • graduate diploma
  • Masters by coursework.

To apply for this visa type, applicants must:

be accepted for full-time study in a registered course or part of a registered course to be eligible for this visa.

*

have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia . You must also have enough money to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they do not travel with you to Australia .

*

meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:

  • your length of stay in Australia
  • other health risks in your home country or countries you have visited for more than three months within the last five years.

*

have health insurance while in Australia . Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance.

meet English language skills:

If you are applying:

  • for direct entry into a course, you must have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or above
  • to do a foundation course (but no ELICOS) before your main course, you must have an IELTS score of at least 5.5
  • to do an ELICOS course before your main course, you must have an IELTS score of at least 5.0. You can study a preliminary English course for up to 30 weeks.

meet specific academic requirements:

If you are applying for your first student visa , you must provide evidence that you:

  • successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent, by providing school reports and academic records
  • successfully completed Year 11 or equivalent, by providing school reports and academic records,
    and have completed or are enrolled in a Foundation course in Australia .
    Note: A Foundation course is a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) as 'Foundation Studies'.
  • successfully completed a qualification from the Australian Qualification Framework at Certificate IV level or higher in a course that was conducted in Australia
    or
  • have a Confirmation of Enrolment in a course that leads to a qualification from the Australian Qualification Framework at Certificate IV level or higher, and that you will complete before your main course.

If you are applying to renew your student visa , you must provide academic reports and previous records of attendance to show that you satisfied the course requirements.

This visa is designed for international students who want to study a Masters degree by research or a Doctoral degree in Australia .

have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your spouse and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia . You must also have enough money to support your spouse and dependent children, even if they do not travel with you to Australia .

meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:

  • your length of stay in Australia
  • other health risks in your home country or countries you have visited for more than three months within the last five years.

About this Visa
This visa is designed for international students who want to study the following courses in Australia :

  • a non-award foundation studies course
  • other full-time course (or components of a course) that does not lead to an Australian award.

Exception: If you are studying a non-award course as a pre-requisite to another course, you must apply for the visa appropriate for your main course of study. If you are studying several courses, the main course is the higher level course.

To apply for this visa type, applicants must:
