students. Australian
Registered Nurse Training Program (ARNTP)
The course is designed to assist
overseas educated nurses to obtain registration
(division 1) with Nurses Board of South
Australia and practice as a registered
nurse in the Australian Healthcare System.
The program is delivered by the School
of Nursing and Midwifery in Adelaide.

Program
Structure
The course enhances English
skills necessary for nurses from non-English
speaking backgrounds to practice safely
and competently in the Australian healthcare
system. It also incorporates study of
the language macro skills as used in
academic studies and in interactive
communication between nurses, patients
and workplace health professionals.
This nursing course reviews the healthcare
system and the legal system in Australia.
It also considers nursing ethics and
covers topics such as the nursing process,
physical examination, standard precautions,
alternative health modalities, mental
health care issues, Aboriginal health,
aged care and nursing research.
This nursing course covers theory related
to a systematic review of pharmacological
principles, respiratory, cardiac, neurological,
endocrine, urinary / renal, gastrointestinal
and musculoskeletal systems.
It focuses on developing competencies for
registration and incorporates all English
skills, mandatory skills of manual handing,
CPR and medication calculations, and
a six week placement in an acute hospital
